My family spent a lot of summer vacations in Gulf Shores, Alabama, when I was growing up. One night we were all sitting on the beach watching the waves glow in the dark. I had never seen that before or since, but it was beautiful and mesmerizing. The waves were glowing when they splashed from bioluminescent algae! I don’t know how long we sat there and watched the waves, but I started to feel very uncomfortable and that something evil was around us. One of my brothers felt it also. It was such a strong presence of evil that we rounded everyone up and headed back to the cabin! I do not know what was coming toward us except that it was bad, and we did not want to be there when it reached us.
The second time that I felt such a strong presence of evil was at our farm many years later. My husband raised beef cattle for years, and the man that he used to take the cows to the sale barn moved out of town. A new man came to pick up the cows, and I was out there watching him work the cows. Again I felt very uncomfortable and felt such an overwhelming sense of evil that I literally had to leave and go inside. After he left, I asked my husband about it and if he had felt anything. He too had felt the evil presence and said he would find someone new the next time.
It was surprising to me that the evil presence was so strong, but we definitely did not want to be near it, or anywhere around it.
The Bible says to flee from evil:
Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
-Prov 4:26-27 (NIV Study Bible)
The wise fear the Lord and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure.
-Prov 14:16
Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.
-Amos 5:14-15 (NIV Study Bible)
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
-Rom 12:9 (NIV Study Bible)
reject every kind of evil.
-1 Thessalonians 5:22 (NIV Study Bible)
Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
-2 Timothy 2:22 (NIV Study Bible)
